Objective | · Present the most up-to-date technology in an ever-changing discipline. · Introduce computer uses and its implications, the exposure to information technology development, and current issues. · Give students an in-depth understanding of why computers are essential components in business and society · Provide exercises and lab assignments that allow students to interact with a computer using various software packages such as MS Office suite and internet related applications. · Provide alternative learning techniques and reinforcement via the Web | |
Learning Outcomes | At the end of this course the students will be able to: · Gain solid understanding of computers, how to use computers, and how to access information on the World Wide Web (LL, A3). · Master hundreds of computer concepts, including input and output devices, file management and desktop applications, computer ethics, virus protection, and much more (C4). · Master the usage computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite: word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database (CTPS, P4). | |
Course Synopsis | An introductory course that introduces advanced computer concepts ranging from personal computer to enterprise computing. This course also covers an introduction to Microsoft Office suite that includes word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database. | |

Course Principles / Background | · Attendance will be taken during the lectures randomly and attendance to the lab sessions is compulsory. Students with bad attendance record (absent for more than 3 times) will be barred from seating for the final exams. · All assignments given MUST be submitted before or on the date required. Late submission without the permission by the lecturer will not be considered. Late assignments submitted with permission will be penalized, downgraded to one lower level for each day of lateness. · If students have misused the facilities given, the permission will be withdrawn from them. · Test MUST be sat on the date and time required. Mark will not be given to students who have not sit for the test except for students with permission (supported by a permission letter issued) or a medical leave letter by a doctor of Pusat Sejahtera USM. The test should be replaced and be sat on the date fixed. · Quiz will be held during lab sessions. · PLAGIARISM or IMITATION is a serious academic offence. Students with this offence will get an F grade. This is applied for the assignments, tests or quizzes and the particular students will be barred from seating for the final exams. The students will be referred to the university disciplinary management board and action will be taken against him/her which will cause him/her to be expelled, fined or suspended from the university. · Please switch off all mobile phones during lectures and lab sessions. · Students are responsible to do the lab exercises given. Lecturers/tutors will guide and help the students to do the exercises. There will be extra lab time for the students to do the exercises given. |
